Atlanta’s concentration of world-renowned health organizations makes us a leader in the health science industry. The open and collegial atmosphere of the health institutions in Atlanta has spurred numerous partnerships that benefit both the researchers themselves and, eventually, the health of the nation and the world. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention engages in partnerships with many of the organizations in Atlanta, such as its ongoing work with the Center for Global Safe Water in association with Emory University and CARE. We are also home to the Carter Center, which works to improve the health of those in developing nations with programs like its Guinea Worm Eradication Program. Closer to home, the Morehouse School of Medicine works to eliminate health disparities in the African American community and partners with Emory to provide medical care to patients at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Because Atlanta is at the center of health and science innovation, businesses and organizations in this field that are looking to expand or relocate to Atlanta have wealth of resources available to them. The Georgia Research Alliance has invested more than $400 million in eminent scholars, research laboratories, national centers for research and innovation and technology transfer programs. These investments have brought more than $2 billion in new federal and private funds into the Georgia economy. The technology transfer offices at Emory, Georgia Tech and Georgia State create commercialization opportunities for products developed at the universities. Most importantly, people in Atlanta are interested in helping others and jobs in the health science industry appeal to the community-centric and compassionate drive of Atlantans.
