Pulse of Progress
ATLANTA'S COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES
Global Hub

Although we gained an international reputation during the Olympics in 1996, Atlanta is seeking to increase its international stature and let the world know of all that we have to offer.  In September 2004, gained CIFAL, or International Centers for the Training of Local Authorities and Civil Society Leaders, designation from the United Nations.  As the only city in the Western Hemisphere with this designation, Atlanta is now one of 12 centers in the world that serve as global expertise centers to train and educate mayors, elected officials and municipal executives.  Atlanta is currently in the running to have the Free Trade Area of the Americas Secretariat located here.  The City of Atlanta also looks to extend its hospitality to other nations through the Sister Cities program.  Atlanta’s Sister Cities are as diverse as the residents of Atlanta itself, from Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia to Montego Bay, Jamaica.
